Visual Studio Issue after Upgrade to Windows 8.1

If you've had to update to windows 8.1 and have trouble since with visual studio (crashes everytime you open a project) - a fix that worked for me is here:

it's just to delete/rename the ComponentModelCache folder (which may be hidden) in: C:\Users\[account name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\11.0
